In the series of Harry Potter movies, imperialism is portrayed blatantly, through Lord Voldemort, suppressing muggles, or non-magical folk, and mudbloods. Voldemort and his followers, Death Eaters, strive to ridicule, and rid the magical world of anyone who is muggle born, because their blood is "impure" hence, the name mudbloods. Their viewpoint is that "magic is might." The muggles in these movies, who are subject to humiliation, and even death, would represent the nation who is weak, and cannot fight Lord Voldermorts wrath, because they to not possess magical qualities, and are unable to fight for themselves against his powers. Voldemort, and the Death Eaters are the reigning nation, because they have all the power with one flick of their wand. They can kill and destroy easily. Throughout the movies, we see The Dark Lord ridiculing muggles and mudbloods, who in his eyes are unworthy of magic. For example In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Lord Voldemort, in the form of a memory and acting through a student, unleashes the basilisk, and aims to harm muggle borns who attend Hogwarts. Also, In Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, in the begging of the movie, Death Eaters are wreaking havoc upon cities, destroying bridges and harming muggles. Though, most of the instances where impearialism is strongly portrayed are in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. One of the many instances is, when at the Malfoy Mansion, Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters are sitting around a table, with the Muggle Studies teacher, Charity Burbage, from Hogwarts levitated above them, she is being mocked for enlightening students about muggles, and after this, she pleads with Severus Snape to help her. Voldemorts followers laugh at her, and with a flick of his want Voldemort kills her, and sends his snake for her dinner. Here, we see that Burbage has no strength against Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters. Another Example is,Voldemort infiltrates the ministry of magic, and there is a statue that depicts muggles who are holding up a floor for where a wizard is standing. The statue's wordings are "Magic is Might" Clearly, this shows that magical folk are better than non magical folk. Also, they institute questioning for witches and wizards who are muggle born to prove that they didn't "steal their magic," because this is what the Dark Lord and Death Eaters believe. If they are proved to be muggleborn with no wizarding blood, they will be locked up, and tortured. Therefore, many witches and wizards have to flee, and go into hiding. For example, when Harry, Ron, and Hermione go into the ministry transformed into other people, and liberate those who have been in questioning. Ron is transformed tells his "wife" to "get out of the country and take the kids with her." Muggle Borns and muggles alike are no match for Lord Voldermort and his Followers. There is a very Strong foundation of Imperialism throughout the Harry Potter films.
