This job blows, literally.
Work Is treacherous, It has been said that five hundred lives were lost for every mile (about fifty miles) of the length of the Canal, or a total of 25,000 deaths. Everyday that I continue to fear my life, and hope that I am not one of the unfortunate who are killed in this backbreaking job. We could be crushed by falling trains, rock, suffocated by gases, blown up by boxes of dynamite we must carry on our heads, or just from physical exertion. We work for numerous hours in a humid, hot climate. Also in addtion to this, we have out breaks of diseases, such as Malaria, Yellow Fever, dysentery, typhoid, dengue. These conditions are terrible. I just want to go back to my family. I truly hope God is looking over me and takes me home to my family soon. My life is in danger here.
