Listen up, Principle

Dear Principle,
As high school students, our history classes seem to have jumped over some topics. There are major events in history on WWII we do not cover. I believe we have a right to learn of these topics. If an education is being given to us, it should be a full and complete one. Not one where a school board can pick and choose what happened it history. Whatever happened... happened. There is no denying or censoring it. This censorship is distorting our views and understanding of important events in our history.
For example, The Rape of Nanking, when the Japanese invaded China, and massacred hundreds of thousands of people brutally, this is something that almost none of the students have never heard about. Another example of genocide is Rwanda, the Hutu have been massacring the Tutsi people, and women were brutally and systematically raped. This has been occurring for years. We never hear about any of these events in highschool history classes. Yet, The Rape of Nanking is such a significant event in the play out of WWII. It is just as important as the holocaust; these atrocities that we all see in the holocaust have occurred elsewhere and sometimes have been even worse. We students should be learning about this and just because this information may seem “too harsh,” but it is still important, and as high school students we need to be exposed to this. It is important to remember that the loop holes in our education are not preparing us for college and the future, if our information has to be “censored.” Life is not censored. Full understanding of history, not only of the United States, but of the World is vital to the success of understanding how our society is what it is. We say history repeats itself, and it’s usually a mistake. If our generation is not informed of this history, how are we to stop it?

Innocent until proven guilty

Sacco and Vanzetti were Italian anarchists, they were charged for murder. They were both Italian immigrants. Followed Luigi Guilani who was an Italian Anarchist that advocated violence, bombings, etc.
Background:
-Bartoleomeo Vanzetti
Born on June 11, 1888, Italy. Immigrated to the United States in 1908
Occupation: Fish Peddler
-Nicola Sacco
22nd April, 1891, Italy. Also Immigrated to the United States in 1908
Occupation: Textile Company worker
The crimes that were committed:
May 5th,1920,
On 5th May, 1920, Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were arrested and interviewed about the murders of Frederick Parmenter and Alessandro Berardelli were murdered in Bridgewater, Massachusetts while carrying boxes of payroll for a factory. They were shot, and $15,000 was stolen. Eyewitnesses made claims that the men who committed the crime appeared to be Italian. On May 5th,1920 Sacco and Vanzetti were arrested for this crime
They also had guns on them during the time of their arrest.
EVIDENCE:
- Sacco was absent from his job.
- Vanzetti lied about where he bought his gun, and from whom he purchased the bullets
-Ballistic testing claimed bullets resembled the ones that come from Saccos gun.
Things to take into consideration:
- The red scare. People were quick to blame immigrant.
Could be bias, and pointing fingers.
- Both men had legitimate alibis
-The men had no previous criminal record.
None of the wittnesses actually wanted to identify Sacco and Vanzetti as the criminals.
After evaluating the evidence, it seems as though Sacco and Vanzetti are innocent. They both have legitimate alibis. Also, I believe people are bias in this trial, because of the Red Scare, and they are do not agree with Sacco and Vanzetti's choice of politics, or lack thereof. Anarchists. Also , evidence showed that Vanzetti lied about the purchase of his guns and bullets. Could it be that he was merely lying in order to protect his friends. There is no doubt in my mind that Sacco and Vanzetti are indeed, innocent. here is not enought evidence against them, and the evidence that is prevented is not convincing.

WASSUP GANGSTAAAA?!

During the Organized Crime presentation, I learned about a few gangsters.
- John Dillinger
-Baby Face Nelson
-Bonnie and Clyde
The gangsters in the 1920's had well thought out organized crimes. They were intelligent and knew what they were doing. Many of the gangsters were involved in bank robberies, which obviously took much planning and consideration. John Dillinger escaped from jail with a wooden gun. He also killed many FBI officers, and others. Bonnie and Clyde were a notorious couple who committed many bank robberies, and auto thefts. They were eventually killed by officials in a car. These criminals were major in the United States and defined the 1920's era.
