III. Setting
-1930’s
-Great Depression
IV. The story
-James faces extreme financial issues. He and his family barely have any money to get by, for food, or the bills.
-This is due to the banks going under.
-He struggles to get shifts at his job, at the docks. He has a broken right hand, and struggled to work, yet he never gave up and kept moving forward.
-Out of desperation for money, Braddock turns to relief money to keep his family afloat.
-Meets with Joe Gould, and finds a few fights.
-Eventually gets a fight with Corn Griffin, on June 14th, 1934 and he wins this fight.
-Braddock is granted more opportunities to fight, such as John Lewis, and Art Lasky. At the publics surprise he wins both.
-On June 13th 1935, Jimmy faces Max Baer, heavyweight champion, who has killed two men.
-Mae sincerely worries about her husband leading up to the fight
-After a grueling 15 rounds Jimmy wins the fight.
-Becomes the heavy weight champion
-Wins the money.
-James was a man of integrity and pays back the money he received from the relief fund.
-His financial worries cease
-He continues to work
-He and his wife buy a home, and his family lives happily ever after
-Serves in WWII
-James J Braddock passed away November 29th 1974
