I. Setting

II. Introducation
A. Rick Blaine the main character is introduced
1.Cafe Owner
B. Ilsa Lund
1. Married to Victor Laszlo who escaped from a concentration camp.
C. Ugarte has letters of transit, which he plans to sell.
1. He gets arrested
2. Rick now has the letters.
III. Rising Action
A. Ilsa turns up with Laszlo, at the Cafe
1. Isla and Laszlo are in need of the letters of transit in order to leave to America
2. The German police watches them in order to make certain they do not leave Casablanca
3. Since Rick finds out Isla is married when Laszlo attempts to get the letters from Rick, he refuses to give them.
IV. Climax
A. Rick gets everyone singing the French National Anthem
1. The Germans shut down the cafe, because of this.
B. Ilsa threatens Rick with a gun, because he refuses to give her the letters.
1.Tells Rick she's in love with him, and explains why she left him.
V. Falling Action
A.Laszlo is arrested
1. At Ricks cafe, attempting to retrieve the letters of transit.
B.Rick convinces Renault to let him go by promising to set him up on a more serious crime
1. This is a lie
2. He tells Renault to call the airport, but instead Louis calls Strasser.
VI. Conclusion
A.Rick makes Louis fill in the letters of transit for Mr. and Mrs. Victor Laszlo
1. Rick believes it's important for Laszlo to have Isla by his side
B. Major Strasser arrives
2.Rick shoots him
3. When the other officers arrive, Renault does not rat Rick out
C. The movie closes with Renault and Rick being friends.
