WIKI LEAKS!

Wikileaks was a website that published anonymous submissions and leaks of sensitive governmental, corporate, organizational, or religious documents, while attempting to preserve the anonymity and of its contributors.
Should Wiki Leaks be distributing classified documents to the public? Well this is the big debate, that has spurred much controversy. The documents that are released reveal shocking truths of government mishaps, and acts that have been hidden from the public eye. Indeed, as shocking as they are, these documents have been hidden for a reason.
According to Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks, citizens should be fully aware of governments actions and happenings. He shared his views and said, "the more secretive or unjust an organisation is, the more leaks induce fear and paranoia in its leadership and planning coterie.... Since unjust systems, by their nature induce opponents, and in many places barely have the upper hand, mass leaking leaves them exquisitely vulnerable to those who seek to replace them with more open forms of governance." It almost sounds as though he is attempting to take down governments. Being an Australian citizen and not even an American, he has no right to impose on the countries affairs. This is definitely espionage, and he should be convicted.
Yet, reaveling 100% of truth to the public can potentially harm and weaken a country, it's military tactics, and decisions would be scrutinized. If these strategies are what makes our government, military, and country strong and a float, then so be it. We do not need to know whats happening, there is a fine line of information that is shared, and it should not be crossed. Especially if this is what is protecting our nation.

Words of war

From reading the wordles from the Declaration of war by the United States, you can tell that the U.S. was not happy about going to war with Germany, and getting pulled into the affair. They really did not want to go to war with Germany, and just wanted everything sorted. Yet, Germany on the other hand, had a very different response, and did encourage war, and combat,. They were definitely angered with the united states.

"Back when I was younger... we only had letters."

Well Aunt Jean, there is one person who will miss you on Christmas day and he is sitting in a digout wondering what you are all doing and wishing you the best of Christmasses and the happiest year of all.
Loving ????(Sean or Sam)

That is a letter from one of the soldiers. This is upsetting, because this soldier had to write a letter, and didn't even have the option to hear his families voice on christmas.
We are lucky today to have instant forms of communication, computer, text messaging, phone calls, letters, webcam etc. These soldiers only had letters... they were probably frustrated, because they had to wait to hear back, and it would've taken sometime for their letters to reach their loved one's. This is a difficult struggle from both sides, because they each are waiting, anticipating eachothers response. Not knowing whether someones dead is terrible. Today we wouldn't be able to live a day without our iPhones, or blackberries. Imagine how grateful these soldiers would be to have Facetime, or BlackBerryMessenger!

COD, WOW, HALO to be... or not to be?

I do not think there is an issue with violent video games. These video games can convey a somewhat realistic portrayal of real happenings. People, especially kids are able to learn from this, and can have fun whilst doing so. The violence factor is not going to be eliminated by removal of video games, like COD and Halo. Whether from movies, television, books... you name it, we are all still exposed to it on a day to day basis.

Though these games have a M for Mature rating, kids of all ages are seen playing. That is their parents decision, and these kids retain information through this violence seen everywhere anyways, and a video game is not going to change that. If video games are banned, then why not movies such as 300, Saving Private Ryan, Jarhead, and all the other war movies?

Kids can learn about real war through these games, because they are dynamic, and realistic as possible. It will give people some real perspective. Sure, there is no reset button in real war, but there is no reset button at all in any aspect of our lives, and everyone understands that. As long as teenagers know and understand this, I do not see a problem with video games.

I have numerous friends that play COD and Halo, and WOW just for fun, in no way are they influenced by these games. It's really all just for fun, it gives them something to do, and provides an adrenaline rush.  I really do not think any of the teens playing this game are going to go out at go on a massive massacre. Honestly... think about it. It's really just not going to happen. If there these games were influencing kids negatively, then there would've bee some action taken already.

I

Dogfight

After playing the "Dogfight" game, a pilot in that sort of situation would be praying to keep himself safe, and get him out of there alive. A pilot would've been scared, and his mind would be focused on shooting the opponent, and just avoiding their fire. This is a stressful thing to have to do, when I played the game, I died just about every 30 seconds. In real life, these pilots must've had to be extremely skilled, or they were going to go down in flames.

Voldemort FTW!

In the series of Harry Potter movies, imperialism is portrayed blatantly, through Lord Voldemort, suppressing muggles, or non-magical folk, and mudbloods. Voldemort and his followers, Death Eaters, strive to ridicule, and rid the magical world of anyone who is muggle born, because their blood is "impure" hence, the name mudbloods. Their viewpoint is that "magic is might." The muggles in these movies, who are subject to humiliation, and even death, would represent the nation who is weak, and cannot fight Lord Voldermorts wrath, because they to not possess magical qualities, and are unable to fight for themselves against his powers. Voldemort, and the Death Eaters are the reigning nation, because they have all the power with one flick of their wand. They can kill and destroy easily. Throughout the movies, we see The Dark Lord ridiculing muggles and mudbloods, who in his eyes are unworthy of magic. For example In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Lord Voldemort, in the form of a memory and acting through a student, unleashes the basilisk, and aims to harm muggle borns who attend Hogwarts. Also, In Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, in the begging of the movie, Death Eaters are wreaking havoc upon cities, destroying bridges and harming muggles. Though, most of the instances where impearialism is strongly portrayed are in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. One of the many instances is, when at the Malfoy Mansion, Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters are sitting around a table, with the Muggle Studies teacher, Charity Burbage, from Hogwarts levitated above them, she is being mocked for enlightening students about muggles, and after this, she pleads with Severus Snape to help her. Voldemorts followers laugh at her, and with a flick of his want Voldemort kills her, and sends his snake for her dinner. Here, we see that Burbage has no strength against Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters. Another Example is,Voldemort infiltrates the ministry of magic, and there is a statue that depicts muggles who are holding up a floor for where a wizard is standing. The statue's wordings are "Magic is Might" Clearly, this shows that magical folk are better than non magical folk. Also, they institute questioning for witches and wizards who are muggle born to prove that they didn't "steal their magic," because this is what the Dark Lord and Death Eaters believe. If they are proved to be muggleborn with no wizarding blood, they will be locked up, and tortured. Therefore, many witches and wizards have to flee, and go into hiding. For example, when Harry, Ron, and Hermione go into the ministry transformed into other people, and liberate those who have been in questioning. Ron is transformed tells his "wife" to "get out of the country and take the kids with her." Muggle Borns and muggles alike are no match for Lord Voldermort and his Followers. There is a very Strong foundation of Imperialism throughout the Harry Potter films.

This job blows, literally.

Work Is treacherous, It has been said that five hundred lives were lost for every mile (about fifty miles) of the length of the Canal, or a total of 25,000 deaths. Everyday that I continue to fear my life, and hope that I am not one of the unfortunate who are killed in this backbreaking job. We could be crushed by falling trains, rock, suffocated by gases, blown up by boxes of dynamite we must carry on our heads, or just from physical exertion.  We work for numerous hours in a humid, hot climate. Also in addtion to this, we have out breaks of diseases, such as Malaria, Yellow Fever, dysentery, typhoid, dengue. These conditions are terrible. I just want to go back to my family. I truly hope God is looking over me and takes me home to my family soon. My life is in danger here.

Chocolate aint' so sweet after all.

“society as a whole is more and more splitting up into two great hostile camps, into two great classes directly facing each other: Bourgeoisie and Proletariat” Marx's idea, conveys a perfect utopia, where when something is wrong, it's fixed and every thing is self sufficent. Within Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, these two classes, the Borugeoisie and the Proletariat, are distinguishable and recognizable. The Bourgeoisie, Willy Wonka, is the higher power. It's his factory, and what he says goes. The Proletariat, are the Oompa Loompa's, servicing to factory, doing all the work, and are under the rule of Wonka. The Bourgeoisie, Willy Wonka, is the higher power. The factory itself represents a utopia. If you have ever seen the movie, when the doors open and there's the chocolate river and all that candy. You know it looks just perfect.

SOA ftw?... I think not!

"Hundreds of thousands of Latin Americans have been tortured, raped, assassinated, “disappeared,” massacred, and forced into refugee by those trained at the School of Assassins."

I do not believe The School of the Americas should be allowed to operate any longer. Though the civilians that are trained may be trying to over throw communist leaders, their methods are horrendous. Innocent blood is shed for no reason at all. The SOA was originally based in Panama, yet the " Former Panamanian President, Jorge Illueca, stated that the School of the Americas was the 'biggest base for destabilization in Latin America.'" Ergo, the SOA was thrown out of Panama, and moved to Georgia. Clearly, the graduates of the SOA are wreaking havoc upon numerous Latin American countries. These countries include, Guatemala, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Bolivia, Haiti and many others. The SOA should not be allowed to train citizens who are native for these countries, to go back and act inhumanely towards their own people. What if someone was to train American Soldiers to come back and wage war against our citizens? Yeah, that's what I thought... wouldn't be so great would it? The SOA is an inhumane organization, and should not be allowed to continue training these men.

New and Improved Learing.

Was my learning experience different, with blogging rather than pen and paper? Well, I actually absolutely love blogging. To me, it's much better than assignments on pen and paper, and I feel like I have more initiative to do my assignments. In addition, it's more opinion based, and I actually do my research when it comes down to weekly articles. Also, students are able to view eachothers work, and we can see others opinions, and share ideas, which leads to a broader learning experience. BLOGGING= AMAZING. It's also a really nice break from all the other classes pen and paper assignments. I can do them easily while im on Facebook (;

My Fave (:

My favorite blogging topic from first quarter, by far was, week six: "Moving West" The reason for this is, because all the options were all interactive, such as playing the game, watching the episode of gunsmoke, and listening to a song. They were fun, and interesting, and I enjoyed the blogging experience. The weekly article wasn't too bad either!

...we finally made it. Now what?

Immigrants that arrived at Ellis Island were probably relieved that they had made it safely but anxious and excited and scared all at once about starting up a new life in a completely foreign country in which they do not know the language. They must have felt a slight bit intimidated by all the questions and examinations, and the thought of possibly being sent home. Though, in the end most immigrants were happy and ready to start up their lives anew, to ensure a better life for themselves and their families.

stitch, stitch, stitch, stitching is a b....

The women that worked in these textile factories, worked under terrible conditions, that no one in present day can even imagine. They worked day and night, and were underpaid, and their job was tedious. They would sing in order to relieve their minds, and push them through the long work day. As there were no labor laws in this time period, there were no limits on how long their boss could keep these women, and they were working in dangerous environments also. Also, in addition to their hard work day, they had to go home and take care of their families. Life for women working in textile factories was most definitely a hard one.

"YEE-HAWWW"..... or not.

Hollywood depicts the average cowboy as a handsome rugged, rough around the edges rebel, sitting in a saloon playing cards and drinking up a storm and causing havoc. The light that is shed on them is usually negative.

Going to bars, and picking up pretty women was not all the glory for these men. Their initial job was to herd cattle.Cowboys endured many hardships, and their job took dedication. The men who chose this lifestyle, virtually lived in isolation. Usually men who chose this job were young and single. Cowboys were usually not settled in one place, they traveled from town to town. Their lifestyle definitely took a toll on their health.

The types of jobs cowboys did were, herding cattle, breaking horses, and tending to other agricultural jobs. Nothing was handed to these men, and they had to find work for themselves.Cattle driving was a long and tedious task, as a cowboy had to travel long distances to find cattle, and then all the way back. It also wasn't just a straight journey, it was important to let the cattle stop and rest to keep them well enough to sell. The trek was slow and difficult. Breaking horses was also not an easy task, which could also be dangerous, as wild horses tend to get aggressive.

The conditions in which they worked were ruthless, long days and nights in a dry climate. They didn't have public restrooms, or an ensured place to sleep at night, and sometimes not even clean drinking water. Cowboys were vulnerable to catching diseases such as cholera, which was widespread amongst them. This came to be a problem, as there were not many doctors available. Also, for the doctors in those days, the remedy for sanitizing was alcohol, and infection was a huge risk. In addition to diseases, the men usually chewed tobacco which obviously contributed to many health issues, and bad teeth! If a cowboy lived past 35, they were considered lucky.

A large part of the cowboy culture, was rodeo. This was a chance for skilled cowboys to show off their talents. This was also a form of entertainment, as events included Bull Riding, Calf Roping, and the like. Most of the events were dangerous. Rodeo is a legacy that is still prevalent today, it is a highly commercialized sport in the U.S. today.

So, as you can see the life of a cowboy was rough, and tedious. It was not a job for the weak hearted

Hollywood obviously has been illustrating the life of a cowboy wrong. They were not just trouble makers who lived life on the edge. Hollywood has romanticized their lifestyle, and most people don't know about the work in herding and agriculture that these men really did. In western movies, cowboys are usually shown picking fights with indians, or outside a bar about to duel, with a tumbleweed blowing around in the background. This was not the reality of a cowboys life. Being a cowboy was a job, which took hard work and dedication. It was a lifestyle choice, once you were in, there was no backing out.

play and learn?!

Gaming can be used a learning tool. When a student plays a game, it helps them memorize what happened, and during a test or quiz they can think back to the what happened during the game to deduce what the answer is. It provides new way to gather information, rather than rote learning methods, such as reading, or flashcards. Students will also be enthusiastic about learning. What kid doesn't want their homework to be playing a game?

Oregan Trail revealed the reality of just how difficult it was for the families that were on the journey west. I personally learned how hard it really was, as I ran out of food, and one of the members of my family got sick. Personally, I believe gaming is an effective method to reinforce learning and study habits.

Discuss the relationships between the treatment of African-Americans during Reconstruction with the treatment of the same peoples during the United States Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s

The idea that during the Reconstruction Era(1863 to 1877), everything for slaves was hunky-dory is totally and completely incorrect.

In 1865 the 13th amendment was granted, it's purpose was to abolish slavery in the United States. In 1868, 14th amendment was granted, it provided the guarantee of rights and security of the freed people. Lastly, the 15th amendment was issued, and it allowed African- Americans the right to vote. Even with these amendments, the southern states found a loop hole. The tenth amendment. This allowed the states to issue the black codes, which were laws that applied to African-Americans which essentially prevented them from buying property, voting, and serve in juries, or the military. The purpose of the unjust black codes was to make an attempt to re-instigate the status of blacks the was it was prior to the reconstruction era, limit the race as much as possible. In light of all these codes and events, blacks maintained a position of inferiority and were definitely greatly discriminated upon. This was the case up until the 1950's, the African- American people were greatly restrained. It seemed like they made progress but in reality they didn't. It was like taking one step forward, and two steps back.

The slaves were placed into a difficult situation, and the white population took advantage of that. During the Reconstruction Era, sharecropping was popular and widespread. Sharecropping was where slaves stayed on a plantation and were granted a plot of land, and they owed about half of what they harvested to their masters. Also, they were still under their masters reign, because they had to sign a contract that basically told them they must to whatever they are told. Also, they made minimal amount of money, and lived in poverty. The act of sharecropping was still widespread up until the civil rights movement.

The civil rights movement took place between 1955–1968. At this point in time, African- Americans were still being discriminated against, just like they had been for a hundred years. Though it was not as bad as during the Reconstruction, the whites still felt supremacy over the black. They were segregated, with separate bathrooms, separate water fountains, and separate schools. One was for the "whites," and the other for the "colored". In addition to this, they were still not allowed to vote, and were the victims of heinous violence crimes.

The civil rights movement was a period of time where African- Americans, stood up and fought for their rights, and resisted racial oppression. They did this through a slue of different actions, civil disobedience, protests, sit-ins, etc. There were also many idols, such as Martin Luther King Jr, that instigated, and promoted civil rights with a passion. The African- American society fought long and hard to cross the barrier of racial discrimination, and were finally granted their rights and opened they eyes of the white population; Proving that they were equal, and they were human beings too, with the rights of an American.
The African- Americans succeeded in their struggle to fight for their rights, and they stood up with a voice, and achieved their purpose. This was how the civil rights movement differed from the Reconstruction era.

Amnesty

Amnesty. Was it right for the government to grant the South amnesty? In my opinion, I do believe it was the right choice. By granting amnesty, the confederate states were allowed back into the Union without worrying about getting prosecuted for their doings. Also, it reunited the Union smoothly because the Confederate States still had their rights, and it proved that there was no winning side, the Union was to be one again. So in order for a smooth transition into preserving the Union through reconstruction, amnesty had to be granted; So the Confederate States would not make the process difficult.

Was life better on the the other side?

Reconstruction had a minimal beneficial value for former slaves. Though they were considered "free" people, essentially there were still strings attached. The thirteenth amendment and the Emancipation Proclamation abolished slavery, but the larger issue was that the slaves had nowhere to go, and were still not accepted by society. Some made it out, and made something for themselves. They did this by getting involved in politics, and gaining higher rankings in society. Others practiced their freedoms such as, voting. Yet most stayed on their masters plantations and got paid to work. Though they did not receive the brutal treatment they endured prior to being freed people, if they chose to say on the plantations, they were still under their masters command, Sure, they god paid, but it was minimal, and their work load was immense. Also, eventually the money they were paid, ended up back in the masters hand. The other slaves that tried to get involved in slavery, were still ostracized, and the white people still considered themselves better. So, slaves did get better treatment after the Reconstruction Period, but it wasn't all rainbows and cupcakes, they still struggled to gain their acceptance of rights and presence in society.

Is less government is better?

What Thoreau means is that a government that does not attempt to control every aspect of peoples lives is best. I do agree with this statement, but then again the purpose of the government is to conduct order and control over the people. Without government matters would be out of hand, and life would be chaotic. So, a government should instill justified laws, and rulings for the people, and not try too hard to control citizens lives. Also, a government should try to provide a positive and safe environment for the welfare of the country, and things would run smoothly

Stereotypes.

Stereotypes have originated, because society feels the need to categorize everyone into perfect sects. The citizens of the United States of America have freedom of speech, the right to voice their opinions. Therefore, these miniscule truths have become exaggerations, and people have decided to view different groups of people in certain ways, and the word spreads rapidly throughout society.  So, does this mean, that all Asians are "smart," all Hispanics are "illegal immigrants," or all African Americans are "ghetto." NO. These are the assumptions that society have made, that everyone knows, based off a small amount of people that actually do fit into these categorizations. The issue is though, people hear these assumptions about their specific race, and actually start acting the way that they have been stereotyped. Society is oblivious to the fact that most of these stereotypes are ridiculous, and have been tainted by these categorizations. Stereotypes are widely known throughout society today, because it is an excuse to categorize people into neat categories and not have any consequences of being "racist" for doing so, and have spread like wildfire. Now the question is... Do you believe them ?

Voltaire

I believe when Voltaire said, “History is a lie commonly agreed upon,” he basically meant, what we hear is what we believe. Just because someone put it in a text book, and called themselves experts, everyone decides to believe it, because in reality, no one was really there to experience it, and usually the documents that historians base their facts off of are from the victorious party’s perspective. So what we have been taught since elementary has for mostly been false. From how the tradition of Thanksgiving flourished…. To thinking that Columbus actually discovered America. Before stepping foot into Mr. Meechins classroom, almost every single one of us believed these facts to be the truth, and we all agreed upon them.

Shame....hding behind lies

Lies are prominent throughout history. Yet should countries omit certain negative events from their history? Well, personally I do not believe it right for countries to leave out important factors from their history, shameful, or not. Owning up to your actions is important, and countries should be able to do this. They acted upon their own command and will, and even though they may be veiled by shame, countries should take responsibility for their actions. Everyday people learn these principals throughout life, and are expected to apply them, even though countries are at a much more grandeur scale, these principles should still apply to them. We have a right to know the truth, and it is important to acquire an unbiased view on  history, because it's is a subject where many judge harshly and have supremely  biased viewpoints. Getting both sides of the story is essential. So,no, countries should not leave out negative aspects of their history.
